About the customer

The company is one of the nation’s largest energy delivery companies, serving more than 10 million customers through six regulated electric and natural gas utilities across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. It invests heavily in grid modernization, clean energy initiatives, and technologies that strengthen infrastructure and improve resilience.

Orange Logic DAM

Enterprise-grade platform implemented

Background

As the company’s content needs grew across six business units, its digital asset management platform needed to evolve alongside them. The existing system, built primarily for a smaller scale of use, increasingly left gaps that teams filled with manual workarounds, scattered storage tools, and a single DAM manager fielding requests directly.

Search & Discoverability

Search often required manual folder browsing, while filters depended on metadata that wasn’t consistently applied across the organization. Many requests went directly to the DAM manager rather than through self-service search.

Fragmented Content & Metadata

Content lived across the existing DAM, SharePoint, OneDrive, file servers, Flickr, Canva, Vimeo, and physical drives. The metadata schema had also grown to include legacy brands, retired tags, overlapping keyword groupings, and inconsistent file-naming conventions.

Manual Workflows

Tagging, publishing, safety reviews, and HR checks relied on manual follow-up. Employee-photo reviews happened ad hoc rather than through a trackable workflow.

Governance Challenges

Business units had different folder structures, processes, and levels of DAM adoption. Contributor access was limited, lifecycle processes for outdated or sensitive content were still developing, and teams needed a more governed way to share content externally with agencies and partners.

"We'd outgrown our old system years before we admitted it. People had built their own workarounds just to get through the day, which told us the platform wasn't serving anyone anymore. When we evaluated Orange Logic, what stood out was that it could actually handle the complexity of six business units without forcing us into one rigid structure. That flexibility, without giving up governance, is what made the decision easy."

Objectives

Establish a single source of truth

One governed repository for approved content, with permissions-based separation by business unit

Create a unified future state

Bring all business units onto one platform for consistent sharing, discovery, and governance

Formalize review workflows

Move safety, HR, and approval processes into the DAM, replacing ad hoc email coordination

Modernize search & metadata

Implement filter-first navigation backed by a clean, standardized schema, retiring legacy brands, obsolete tags, and overlapping keyword groupings

Migrate assets from the existing DAM

Move roughly 19,000 assets through extraction, duplicate handling, and validation in a structured, low-risk process

Drive platform adoption

Train administrators to manage the platform and support their teams independently after go-live

Our Approach

Assess & Design

We began with discovery across every business unit to understand existing content, workflows, metadata, permissions, and governance requirements.

From there, we designed a standardized metadata taxonomy tailored to the company’s content and documented it in a comprehensive Configuration Workbook for long-term maintainability.

Configure & Govern

We implemented inheritance-based tagging to reduce manual effort and configured a branded Orange Logic homepage that gives teams immediate access to high-demand assets such as logos, brand guidelines, and marketing templates.

Review workflows were formalized inside the DAM, replacing ad hoc email approvals with a structured, status-driven system and visibility-based access controls.

Migrate & Enable

Approximately 19,000 assets were moved through a validated migration process that included metadata curation, test uploads, bulk migration, a delta run, and full validation ahead of go-live.

Tiered training and post-launch support equipped administrators across the business units to manage the platform and support their teams independently.

What Set This Project Apart

Building for Tomorrow, Not Just Today

Rather than starting with a lightweight DAM and replacing it as requirements grew, the company chose to build an enterprise-grade content foundation from the outset.

Orange Logic not only meets the company’s immediate needs but also supports more users, content, and workflows as the organization evolves.

Results

With Orange Logic as its central DAM for final assets, the company now has a more consistent way to find, manage, review, and share content across the organization.

"Avyre didn't just help us pick a platform, they helped us figure out what we actually needed before we ever looked at vendors. That discovery work saved us from making the same mistake twice. Now our teams can find what they need in seconds instead of emailing someone and waiting. We couldn't have gotten this far without them."
